It Probably Hurts More This Time

NBA 2015 Playoffs. WCF just concluded last night with the crowning of GSW as the kings of the west. Congrats Steph Curry for the championship and MVP, and to Steve Kerr for a great rookie coach year. A month ago, I had envisioned the same happening to my beloved LA Clippers. The Clips making franchise history and CP3 and BG will be permanent figures on the team. What a choke. I can blame and hate the Rockets for taking that dream away but objectively, we are to blame. We blew it. Doc Rivers blew it. Wthout KG and Pierce, Doc is nothing.

I have been a Clippers fan since the rough days when Dunleavey was the coach and Baron Davis was the star of the team. I head season tickets for a season then. It was rough every game, watching the team get beat up every game, the empty seats, fans booing. Kudos to Clipper Darrell for being there every game and bringing positivity when there was none. It was hard being a Clippers fan. We get made fun of by the Lakeshow fans. LA was their town.

Since David Stern made that great move to veto the trade for CP3 to the Lakers, the tide turned for us. Suddenly we were a contender. We made the playoffs. Vinny Del Negro did his best and brought the team to the next level, but it wasn’t enough. He couldn’t take us beyond 2nd round. So we got rid of him and brought a ring studded Doc Rivers from Celtics who came with a hefty price tag. If we get the ring, the price tag will be worth it. However, 2 years later and nothing but chokes for 2 years straight. Last year we choked against OKC. This year we were actually so close. WCF was within reach. Just one more win.

I don’t know which hurts more. Watching a hopeless team in 2008 or watching something so close taken from us in 2015. I have to say, it probably hurts more this time.
