Sheng and I are re-doing the entire first floor of his house. Having seen so many episodes of remodeling programs on HGTV such as Love It or List It, Property Brothers, Flip or Flop etc, I feel I possess some expertise in remodeling. I’m super excited about my first pet remodeling project. Here is a peak at what the basement looked like before the contractor Sam and his crew put their magic to work:
As you can see, the walls were lined with wood panels that looked like they were from the 70s. The floor is more decent, a light wood-looking laminate. There was a red brick fireplace that looked super out of place. There was also a rather small window next to the fireplace which didn’t allow enough light to enter. There was also a ledge that served no purpose and unsightly. As such, these are the major pieces I want re-worked. First task is to have the wood panels on the walls removed, along with the laminate floor. Next is to remove the red bricks by the fireplace, and to have the window widened to allow more light to enter. Another thing is to convert the ledge to a storage box or simply remove the whole thing. TBD. Then finally, install recess lights on the ceiling. The end goal is to convert this space to a loft-like work area. As we are still at the beginning phase, I welcome all suggestions on the walls and floor.
Anyway, Sam and his crew came in to start the project. Here is what it looks like now:
So the wood laminate flooring was covering some ugly floor tiles beneath. Those definitely need to go. Walls are looking good. Maybe some padding? Things are definitely underway. Stay tuned for more updates.
